Problem with Apple Podcast
« on: August 13, 2018, 09:31:58 pm »
The short story on this is Apple Itunes says I need to rename my podcast because of a problem on their end that they cant or wont fix so that I can submit my podcast.  They say I need to rename the podcast and once it is approved, I can rename it back to what I want to it to be.  Doesnt make a lot of sense but I am playing in their sandbox so I have to go by their rules.

I have changed the Feed Title (Show Title) to have a slightly different name but Apple iTunes isnt seeing that.  How to I change the name to where they can see the "new" temporary name ?

Also, they complained that my image was 96 dpi instead of 72dpi.  When I drop the image resolution down to 72 dpi, the size of the image drops to 1050 x 1050 pixels which is below the 1200 x 1200 dpi they also claim is there minimum.

Would appreciate a little help on this.  Apple is being very non-helpful on this.  I have the podcast listed on google podcasts, tunein and stitcher with no problem.

Please respond with the URL of the podcast feed so we can take a closer look at what's going on.

Thanks for the reply.  I think I have image issues fixed.  Apple Itunes support is now telling me this for the first time -

Your podcast was removed, because the <title> and <itunes:author>
tags contain extra information.

After reviewing your RSS feed,
I can confirm that currently your <title> tag shows the
title as TechBytes With Ron Nutter. However, the “With Ron Nutter”
part would not be appropriate for this tag. That is information
that can be provided in the <itunes:author> tag.
Please remove the extra information from the <title> tag.

Also, your <itunes:author> tag currently shows the same information,
“TechBytes With Ron Nutter.” The <itunes:author> tag should only
show the podcast author’s name. Please remove the extra
information from this tag. For more information regarding the use of
tags, please refer to the Podcasts Connect Help guide.

Here is the URL for the feed - https://techbyteswithronnutter.com/feed/podcast/

I have been through all of the options and dont see how to fix this.
My concern is that I dont want to mess up the information that Google Podcasts, Stitcher and TuneIn are getting in order to fix the iTunes issue.
The last email I had from Itunes support said to fix the graphics issue and we were good.
Now they have come up with this latest one.  There must have been a change at some point.  This is how I had the podcast  published several years ago before it went inactive.

Thanks for anything that you can do.
Ron

Go to PowerPress >> Settings, Advanced Mode >> Feeds tab >> Feed Title (Show Title) and change the show name, then click the Save Changes button.

Switch to the Apple tab and then change the author name in the iTunes Author Name field and click the Save Changes button.

Shawn:

Thanks for your help on this.  Based on what apple said, I was concerned about causing a problem in the feed for other systems that same xml feed.

Making progress but think I have hit a problem on Apple's end.

I see the changes in the feed (https://techbyteswithronnutter.com/feed/podcast/) but they dont.
Guess I will need to wait another day and have them try again.

Everything looks fine to me. Did you tell Apple you've made the necessary corrections in the feed?

Yes I did and even sent them a screen shot.  I think something is caching the file on their end since I could see the changes I made using different computers on different internet providers.
Thanks for your help on this.

The change they had me made to get things working for them has caused a problem with getting into the Blubrry podcast directory.
Since there is already another podcast with Techbytes as the name, I cant submit mine for inclusion.

Any idea of how to get this done and not mess up the iTunes setup ?

Ron

I updated the existing listing for TechBytes in your Blubrry account to use the RSS feed above. You should see it now when you log in to your dashboard at blubrry.com.

Shawn:

Thanks for doing this.  Wanted to get my podcast into the Blubrry directory so I can get on Roku and other platforms.
Really appreciate your doing this.

Now I can start working on the process of getting featured and being listed on Spotify.

Thanks,
Ron

Looks like your podcast was delisted by Apple. Click the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page and ask them why it was delisted. Please report back here with whatever they tell you:

This is the actual RSS feed  https://www.mawalkingradio.com/feed/podcast.   I had a typo in the previous message.

These are the issues Itunes are indicating with our podcast

1. The podcast is not included in the Apple Podcasts directory. A technical error occurred with metadata, artwork, or attempting to download an episode in the podcast.

2. Error parsing feed: Invalid XML: Error on line 119: The element type "meta" must be terminated by the matching end-tag "</meta>".

I ran your feed thru CastFeedValidator and everything came up fine. The feed size is getting a bit big, and the feed is loading kinda slowly. You may be able to improve this by going to PowerPress >> Settings, Advanced Mode >> Feeds tab and checking the boxes next "Don't allow other plugins to modify podcast feeds" and Feed Episode Maximizer and clicking the Save Changes button. Once you've done that, contact Apple support at the link I posted in a previous reply and ask them to reactivate your listing.
