Multiple language podcasts
« on: December 15, 2017, 08:12:52 pm »
Hi, We've recently created an English podcast feed using Powerpress, and are now considering having foreign teams with affiliated websites also publish their podcasts on iTunes and Google. What's the best way to do this?

We hope to fulfill these requirements:

- Foreign teams leverage the current (English) Wordpress instance to use Powerpress
- Each foreign language team has their own distinct feed, and ability to add their own episodes
- Each foreign team has their own Powerpress password, and no access to our English Powerpress (don't want them to inadvertently mess things up, etc.)
- The foreign language team members speak English too, so having the Wordpress menus in English is fine.
- Each podcast should be stand alone, and not show up when the original English one is searched on iTunes, etc. (as that may add confusion to listeners)

Could the foreign teams leverage our existing Wordpress instance?

Can this be done with channels, categories, or multisite?

We're currently using Powerpress only to create the feed, and don't really use the (Wordpress) website it creates (neither will the foreign sites), as we have a well-established website already. We just use Powerpress to get our podcasts on iTunes and other services. We host the media on a hosting provider.

Thanks!

You'd probably be best served by using Custom Podcast Channels within PowerPress to create multiple feeds:

You might be able to control which users can access which podcast channels by using a role management plugin, but I'm not 100% sure that's possible. You'd need to do some experimentation to see if it'll work.

It seems that podcast channels are for multiple formats in each blog post. That doesn't sound like what we want.

I think we would want completely separate blogs for each foreign language.

Custom Channels can be used for multiple file formats, yes. But each channel is simply its own independent podcast channel with a corresponding podcast RSS feed.

If you create completely separate blogs for each language, then you don't really need to worry about creating custom channels, as you can just use the default podcast channel on each individual blog to cover the podcast for that language.
