New Feeds A Bit Wacky
« on: November 14, 2015, 11:47:17 am »
So I was able to successfully switch from Seriously  Simple podcasting to Blubrry.  After i set up all of my new feeds (using category feeds) and i edited my .htaccess file to send the old feeds there.. im noticing a different problem that I did not see coming.. hopefully its just something that i did wrong.

All of the old feeds are going to the main new feed which is   http://alldigitalradionetwork.com/feed/podcast/  .  When i pull them up in itunes or stitcher they are showing every show now.. Each of my 11 feeds are showing the exact same thing even tho they are all different feeds.

Also when the category feeds are posted.. underneath where it allows you to subscribe to the feed via itunes. android etc.   its giving itpc://alldigitalradionetwork.com/feed/podcast/   instead of the feed to the podcast that its originating from.

Is there something that I need to turn off so that the main feed is not there and people can subscribe to the particular feed that is posting the podcast?  Also have you heard of the above situation where all the old feeds are just going automatically to the new main feed even tho the feeds are set up for category podcasting?

Thanks

It sounds like what you've done is you've redirected all of your old feeds to one URL. All of the podcasts you've set up with category feeds have their own unique feed URL's, based on their categories. You have to redirect the old URL's of the individual feeds to the new URL's of the individual feeds. Redirecting them all to the default podcast feed will cause all of the old feeds to use the same feed.

no Shawn,  What im talking about happened before i ever even did that redirect. its not related.  The moment i removed the old podcasting system.  all of the feeds show this new feed on stitcher and itunes.  They were not actually being forwarded there.   and im saying that on the podcast posts themselves.  where the people subscribe.  its not giving the individual feed option for subscription. its giving the main feed of all podcasts.    We may never figure out why the first problem happened but the second is an issue we might be able to figure out.

I may have more info as i did research.  When the podcasts show up on the MAIN PAGE  .. the subscription feeds show just the main feed.  If you click in the actual post the url on the itunes subscription changes.   Is that how it should be?

For instance if you go to http://alldigitalradionetwork.com/ and look at "Radio DAn Show Nov 12th"  and hover over the itunes and android subscriptions. you will just get the url to the main page feed.  But if you click into the actual post.. the same area has a different url for subscription.  Im assuming thats not right because if someone tries to subscribe on the main page they are not actually subscribing to that individual feed.

To give more info on this situation  please take a look at this post   http://alldigitalradionetwork.com/rollin-with-swanny-live-on-rws-radio-11_13_15/

If you look down at the bottom and hover over the subscribe feeds.   they are all pointing to http://alldigitalradionetwork.com/feed/podcast/

Even tho the feed for this podcast is clearly defined as  http://alldigitalradionetwork.com/category/adr-radio-shows/rollin-with-swanny/feed/

Every single feed is pointing to that same location in the "subscribe" portion. and when i look up any of these podcasts in itunes or stitcher they are all showing me that feed.   This feed is not even the protocol for Blubrry from what im able to see.

Im using category podcasting and im wondering if there is anything im missing here.   I have added the redirects to all the feeds at this point and they are all working when you go there in a web browser.   But in itunes.. Stitcher and the mobile apps every single podcast goes directly to the above feed.

One last thing here .. (sorry for all the posts. im just sharing info as i see them)  But if you look at the official itunes link for the above podcast  https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/sw-radio/id984256218    Tho i have placed the correct itunes link in the feed information it takes me to a totally different feed and displays the powerpress logo .

Im ASSUMING that this all has something to do with the fact that im working with category feeds and somehow thats whats screwing me up.

The iTunes listing you've linked to is using this Podtrac feed: http://feeds.podtrac.com/a1vJ8h92cjlr  So, any display issues there would be caused by the settings on that feed.

Thanks Shawn,  I did not do anything to change that.  Not even sure how  you found that but THANKS SO MUCH!  Do i need to open a ticket with itunes to fix this?   When i changed the feeds i put my forward in and i placed the link in the feed for that url.. not sure what else to do?

On another note.  Can you help me to understand why on the "Subscribe" links for Blubrry.  they dont link to my actual feed of the podcast.. they link to the feed for the page they are on.  Is there any way for me to change that?  Because to have "Subscribe in itunes" but they get the whole website feed doesnt really help.

Here would be another example   http://alldigitalradionetwork.com/s11e14-highlights-from-the-voice-2015-more/

When you look at "Subscribe" .. the itunes and android feeds BOTH take them to http://alldigitalradionetwork.com/feed/podcast/

When the feed for this podcast is actually http://alldigitalradionetwork.com/category/adr-radio-shows/in-the-lab-with-kg/feed/

Any idea what im doing wrong?

Podtrac is a stats tracking service. Did you ever sign up with them? That's the only way I can think of that any of your feeds would be using a Podtrac URL. If you have used Podtrac before, and you have a Podtrac account, you can see if they can redirect the feed to the feed URL you'd like to use. Alternatively, you could contact iTunes Support and ask them to update your listing in the iTunes Store with the feed URL you'd prefer.

I'm not sure why you're having that issue with the PowerPress subscribe links. I am checking with the rest of the support team to see if they have any ideas. Also, PowerPress 6.2 was just released so make sure you're updated to the latest version.

Thanks Shawn,  I always appreciate the help.   One other thing ive noticed is that many of my feeds show the Powerpress logo instead of the logo that i have in the feed.   an example is  https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-countdown-with-dj-baker/id982604488

Is that also an itunes issue ?   When i look at the actual feed i always see the real logo.  but in itunes i see the powerpress one.

I'm not sure why the PowerPress image is showing up in your listing. I checked the source feed and the artwork you've got in place is within the current iTunes spec. One thing you can try is to replace the current album art with a file that hasn't a slightly different name. You can use the same file. Just add a "1" onto the end of the actual filename or something like that. Sometimes, these types of changes send a signal to the iTunes Store to update the artwork.

Category podcasting and the default podcast feed have been a challenge since the beginning. For the most part, if you use category podcasting, you should not give out your default podcast feed.

The issue with "Subscribe" links and categories is a known one and we are working on a permanent solution in PowerPress 7.0. I would recommend turning the links off until that version is available. I'd also encourage you to joint he beta list if you want to get your hands on this release sooner than later.

Can you reply with all of your iTunes listing URLs on iTunes?  So far I only see https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/sw-radio/id984256218 which is using http://feeds.podtrac.com/a1vJ8h92cjlr You will need to contact Podtrac to fix this feed URL, that it is pulling the correct RSS feed.

Please reply with the list of the others, I can look them up which will help us backtrack the problems.

Thank you so much,  I dont even know how you guys are able to see in the code these links so i couldnt do this without you.  As far as the main feed.. i never use that for ANYTHING.. so i havent given that out.  Not sure how things got crossed.  Where can i turn off that option?  Here are the other 2 feeds im having the most trouble with now

https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-radio-dan-show/id978010856

This one is clearly pulling a totally different feed. but i havent set that up anywhere.  its pulling the feed from my personal show but it should be pulling from

http://alldigitalradionetwork.com/category/adr-radio-shows/the-radio-dan-show-adr-talk/feed/

Then one feed got totally messed up.  i cant find the original itunes podcast email  but i found it in itunes
https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/alldigitalradionetwork.com/id982604516?mt=2

This feed is not even supposed to be called "alldigitalradionetwork.com   as we never even submitted such a feed so how it has an id number next to it  i dont know..  But the feed should go to http://alldigitalradionetwork.com/category/adr-radio-shows/in-the-lab-with-kg/feed/

I dont know if i can even correct that without finding the itunes email to verify that the show id is the right one. but its the ONLY one thats still un accounted for so im assuming thats it.

Okay here's the results looking up on iTunes...

https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-radio-dan-show/id978010856 = http://feeds.podtrac.com/a1vJ8h92cjlr
https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/alldigitalradionetwork.com/id982604516 = http://alldigitalradionetwork.com/feed/podcast/xxxy-factor

Did you say there were more? Please reply with the titles and other information, I may be able to find them that way.

Here is a ModRewriteRule to fix the 2nd podcast, you can add this to your .htaccess file.

Code: [Select]
RewriteRule ^feed\/podcast\/xxxy-factor http://alldigitalradionetwork.com/category/adr-radio-shows/in-the-lab-with-kg/feed/ [R=301,L]
You would put this on a new line below the "RewriteBase /" line. Do not edit the .htaccess file if you are not comfortable.

Wow.

These podtrac feeds i have no idea where they came from.  I installed a plugin a month or so ago to try to get stats for my old podcast plugin.. But i saw it didnt work and disabled and deleted them the same day.. i never had podtrac take over any feeds.. and i dont even know how i would get them forwarded.

The rest of the feeds seem to be mostly working now.. it took a while tho.

When you look at an itunes listing.. can you tell me how you go about determining the feed that it's using?
