Encoding of feed is incorrect
« on: September 15, 2015, 05:39:18 am »
Character encoding is incorrect, swedish å, ä and ö does not work when I try to add the podcast to iTunes. What am I doing wrong?

I use Libsyn, and Power Press.

Grateful for any help!

”This feed is valid, but interoperability with the widest range of feed readers could be improved by implementing the following recommendations.

I ran your feed thru Feed Validator and while it does throw up some flags, I wouldn't worry about them too much. I manually subscribed to your podcast feed in iTunes and it worked just fine. I don't think you need to change anything at this time.

Thanks for your reply!

But when I try to add RSS feed to iTunes replacement Swedish letters with strange characters ... It does not look good. Is it possible to fix afterwards if things go wrong?

The iTunes desktop client doesn't process/display HTML. It only displays standard text and some Unicode characters. If you're unhappy with how things are displaying in the iTunes application, you'll have to change them at the source - in other words, what you're entering into your WordPress posts. The best thing I can suggest would be to create a second version of your shownotes without the Swedish characters and enter that into the iTunes Summary box of each podcast episode.

Thanks for the reply!

Yesterday I submitted my RSS Feed to iTunes, and today I got it approved. Unfortunately no å, ä and ö in the description of the pod or info about the episode. I have tried to switch to WP's own theme and to turn off all plug without result. WordPress is upgraded to the latest version but the installation is 10 years old.

In wp-config.php I

define(‘WPLANG’, ‘sv_SE’);

/ ** Database Charset to use in creating database tables. * /
define ('DB_CHARSET', 'utf8');

define ('DB_COLLATE', 'utf8_unicode_ci');

In phpMyAdmin

Server connection collation utf8_general_ci

How do I do now?

I noticed that you posted this question on Facebook as well and our lead developer (Angelo) responded to you over there. I'm just going to post a link to that thread here for reference:
