Basic questions concerning statistics
« on: February 12, 2014, 01:54:10 pm »
I'm new here. Can you help me understand the statistics?

What is the difference between total downloads and sum of unique downloads?
15 Total Downloads
8 Sum of Unique Downloads

Does the statistic also track the downloads via iTunes store?
Does test hearing and download the podcast both count as downloads in the statistics?
What does Bots and Crawlers in distribution mean?

The stats track anywhere your file is accessed from your server including iTunes, streaming from your site or downloaded to someones computer.

The unique is the total from different IP addresses and the Total is the total regardless of IP address.   So if you download it 3 times from your own account, it will count as 3 total but 1 unique.

Hi Mike,

that makes sense. Thank you. I wondered why there is a so high number but the statistics always refers to the unique number. I guess test hearing counts as a download first time and when he decides to download the podcast, it counts as download with same IP.

Do via iTunes (PC, iPhone, iPad) subscribed podcast count as Podcatcher in Distribution section and iTunes in Clients section (regardless whether PC, iPhone or iPad)?

Another question: Is it possible to reset the statistics? (I want to start counting when all files are tagged.)

Yes, iTunes includes PC or Mac.

No, there isn't really a way to "reset" stats.
