PowerPress 0.5.2 and WP 2.7 mixing feeds
« on: December 15, 2008, 03:09:24 am »
PowerPress has been working perfectly up until either the 2.7 upgrade of the 0.5.2 update.  Now my http://www.gamerwok.com/feed and http://www.gamerwok.com/feed/podcast are being mixed into the same one.

This leads iTunes to only see the last 3 episodes of the feed since the site is updated daily and the podcast is weekly.

Before 2.7 or 0.5.2 my feeds were independent of each other where the podcast feed only showed the feeds with blubrry uploaded MP3 files.

Is this just me or has anyone else noticed this?  Thanks!

Something is doing a HTTP redirect for your feed http://www.gamerwok.com/feed/podcast to http://www.gamerwok.com/feed. Do you have any other plugins that manage your feeds in any shape or form? What is also strange is I could not access the query string version of your feed, e.g. http://www.gamerwok.com/wp-feed.php also redirects to http://www.gamerwok.com/feed. I'm pretty confident this is not a Blubrry Powerpress issue.

I'm  not running anything else that's doing a redirect as far as I know.  But if you go to the podcast feed now, things are showing up again.  However, since something did redirect my feed, iTunes now has the wrong feed, is there a way to update them using blubrry?

EDIT: I've switched over to podcasting plugin for WP and the feed was fixed.  As soon as I switched back to powerpress, the redirects happened again.  So either this is a blubrry thing or there's a conflict in plugins that I can't figure out.  Any help would be appreciated!

I just tested your feed, it is still doing a redirect to http://www.gamerwok.com/feed. Are you using some sort of caching plugin or something for feeds such as FeedSmith?

If you click this link: http://www.gamerwok.com/feed/podcast, when the feed loads in your browser you will see in the address bar the final address is http://www.gamerwok.com/feed (not the podcast feed) I just tested this just now and it's still redirecting to the main feed.

iTunes is going to keep picking up your main feed until you get this redirect problem resolved.

Once your problem is fixed, you can send a ping to iTunes. You can ping iTunes from within Powerpress (if you have the iTunes subscribe URL entered) or manually with the following instructions.

Manually ping iTunes by entering one of the following URLs into your web browser:

https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/pingPodcast?id=FEEDID

where FEEDID is your iTunes podcast numeric ID.

https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/pingPodcast?feedURL=http://FEEDURL

where FEEDURL is the url for your feed.

Details from Apple: http://www.apple.com/itunes/whatson/podcasts/specs.html#episodes

The results will tell you the exact feed iTunes is pulling from your site. Again you need to get this redirect issue fixed, then you can set the itunes:new-feed-url setting to tell iTunes of the new podcast feed. Detailed instructions are available on the blubrry help site, basically you will need to add the following line to your wp-config.php file:

define('POWERPRESS_NEW_FEED_URL', 'http://www.gamerwok.com/feed/podcast');

If you're still having problems, please email me with a detailed list of the plugins you have installed with their version numbers and the version of Wordpress you are using. Email: cio [at] rawvoice.com.

As I edited my previous post (probably right after you read it  ;) ) I used a different podcasting plugin and the feed was fixed.  So it looks like there's an issue with Powerpress and perhaps on of my active plugins.
