Stuck iTunes Feed Settings in Powerpress
« on: March 09, 2013, 01:34:20 am »
Just got Hosting through bb and also have powerpress plugin. I am so afraid I am going to submit the wrong feed to iTunes.
This is what I am doing...
My URL for my site is LisaShawCares.com but my radio (podcasting) show is called The Whole Woman.
Sooooo, I set up a Category in "Category Podcasting" called The Whole Woman Radio.
The Feed there looks like this:
http://lisashawcares.com/category/the-whole-woman-radio/feed/

This is the only category I will make and will always only post to it.
I did this instead of using the suggested: http://lisashawcares.com/feed/podcast/ because I want my show name in the title of my actual podcast too.

That leads me to my issue  :o  WHICH will be the actual Feed URL I put in my settings in PowerPress under iTunes??
Click the following link to Publish a Podcast on iTunes. iTunes will email your Subscription URL to the iTunes Email entered below when your podcast is accepted into the iTunes Directory.

Recommended feed to submit to iTunes: http://lisashawcares.com/feed/podcast/

Also, under the tab...feeds where it does not give me a choice but has http://lisashawcares.com/feed/podcast/ to Validate-- I am so confused.  ???

Mercy. Help. I cannot find any up to date tutorials. This feed part is the only part I am stumped with and it's a biggie to mess up.
Thank you sooooooo much for helping me!!
 :)

I'm glad you asked before you submitted to itunes!

Instead of using category podcasting, I would suggest using your default feed ( .../feed/podcast/ ).   Then enable podcast channels.  Go to channels and edit the default feed.  In there is a place you can change the feed title.   This will simplify your workflow.

The nice thing is that you won't have to remember to put your podcasts in a category and can change the category without messing up your feed.

Hope this makes sense! :)

Thank you so much for your response!
I want to get clarity...

I did what you said and enabled podcast channels (turned off categories) and created a channel for The Whole Woman.
The Whole Woman Radio: http://lisashawcares.com/feed/the-whole-woman-radio/

So I submit that feed to iTunes and then wait for iTunes to email me my Subscription URL to add in. Yes?

Question #1- I cannot click 'Publish a Podcast to iTunes' link until I publish an actual podcast first, correct??

Question #2- I see in each new blog post that I can now chose which podcast channel to publish to. Of course I would choose http://lisashawcares.com/feed/the-whole-woman-radio/    BUT- I also actually need to put in a blog post category as well... This is where I got confused.  :o

IF that is what I do, then in reality, I could just keep the original podcast feed of http://lisashawcares.com/feed/podcast/ and then choose to publish it in the blog category of 'The Whole Woman Radio' and then it would have all the names in it.

Am I right in that??

Because the other way, the title on site will end up having The Whole Woman twice in the url,...right?

I am soooooo sorry about all of this. I am usually really good at picking up all things tech. I think I am so nervous in dealing with itunes. I am actually doing this for a client.
So I appreciate it soooo much!!   :)

I would get rid of the new channel and just post to the default channel.  Saves complication.

What I was saying about channels is you can edit the Default channel to have the feed name you want.

You can put your posts in whatever category you would like, and since you are NOT using category podcasting, it doesn't effect the URL or anything else.

You are on the right track! :)

EDIT: *** Yes, you have to have one episode posted before you submit to itunes.  Once you do that, you never have to do that again for this podcast.

:)  You are awesome and fast! Thank you!

I have added 4 shows and tried to Validate but it has an error
http://feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Flisashawcares.com%2Ffeed%2Fpodcast%2F

I THINK it is because it needs to take awhile? I need to ping it or wait?

Thanks so much!

No, you haven't posted an episode yet.  Once you do, the feed will validate.

I have posted 4 episodes today. But now I think maybe it's due to me having the site behind a 'construction' plugin as I am designing it.
Would that stop it? Because it probably can not read it yet.

(My name is Noelle acting as Lisa this whole time as i set her up. But wanted her to have this account to use later)

 ;)
