url problem
« on: February 13, 2010, 09:55:26 pm »
Help, I have uploaded my podcast to a file hosting site but whenever I insert the media url and hit verify I get an error message stating:  media url contains characters that may cause problems for some clients. for maximum compatibility, only use letters, numbers, dash - and underscore _ characters only.

Here's the mp3 url I'm trying to insert:

http://www.fileden.com/files/2009/10/27/2622885/Christian%20Speakeasy.mp3

Can someone help me?

Yes, Rename the mp3 file to something with no strange characters.  Just letters, numbers, the underscore or a dash in the file name.

That's the only way to get rid of that error.  You want to do that because some audio players will not play your file with the "%20" in the file names.

This is actually not an error but a warning. You are free to ignore the warning but you should take it seriously. We put this warning in the plugin so your media is compatible with as many devices as possible.

Hi, I'm trying to upload my first podcast. I uploaded my file ftp://cherilas@cherilasota.com/www/wp-content/themes/thesis_16/thesis_16/custom/podcasts/ArtemisRisingExcerptChapter1.m4a to my Bluehost ftp server. But I don't think it likes the ftp in the address (I got that from copying the URL from FileZilla. At least, that's the only thing I can think of. Is there a way to find a corresponding http URL for that same file? I can't upload it to WP.org because the file is too big. Agh, I'm so close to getting this working!

Your thought is correct, ftp:// should not be in the http URL.

Please contact your web hosting for assistance with uploading files via FTP and obtaining the HTTP url for them. Each web hosting service has their own setup for how files are served, they would be the best folks to contact regarding this issue.
