Problem with RSS feed
« on: September 25, 2018, 03:21:55 pm »
I recently switched site hosting companies and when I did I found many podcasting apps having trouble correctly displaying my podcasts (some like iTunes display only the latest 50 of the 83 I currently offer, others like Pocket Cast aren't loading any podcasts I've created since I switched hosting companies).

My hosting company is claiming it has something to do with my PowerPress settings but I don't see anything obvious (I'm pretty non-technical though so that may not be helping).

I would appreciate any guidance on how I figure out where the problem lies. Thank you so much in advance!

Please provide links to your show's Apple Podcasts listing and your podcast RSS feed so we can take a closer look at what's going on.

Thank you so much Shawn. Which URL is a good question. I received back different information from TMD (my hosting company) and Libsyn. Here's what I've got:

-I believe the feed that is used by iTunes is https://www.therialtoreport.com/feed/podcast/
-https://www.therialtoreport.com/podcast seems to bring up the same content as https://www.therialtoreport.com/feed/podcast/ - and neither is showing the full list of available podcasts (it shows 50 of the 82 available)
-https://www.therialtoreport.com/feed brings up a very small subset of available content, both podcasts and other post types (it shows content from early May until now whereas we have site content going back years)

I really appreciate any help.

When I try to load this feed URL:
https://www.therialtoreport.com/feed/podcast/

I get an "error establishing database connection" message. This kinda thing can often be caused by a conflict between WordPress plugins or your WordPress theme.

Make sure everything on your site including plugins, theme, and core WordPress, are up to date. This page has some suggestions on how to diagnose this type of problem:

Here is the specific note I got back from the hosting company when I asked for help:

"I have reviewed the URL which you are using to share your podcast -> https://www.therialtoreport.com/feed/podcast/  and have noticed that it is not loading properly.

As the folders /feed/podcast are not part of the infrastructure of your account we could not access them and investigate why this URL is loading an XML code.

Note that we would not be able to assist you further if you do not provide us with any instructions obtained from the vendor of the blubrry plugin."

Seeing as they say "/feed/podcast are not part of the infrastructure of your account" is it still definitely a conflict? Could it be something else?

And one more follow up on this - the feed URL showing up in my plugin settings (https://www.therialtoreport.com/feed/podcast/) does not validate. Can you tell me:
1. How I identify the correct URL for my site's podcast feed (I looked at the File Manager but nothing jumped out at me), then
2. How to update the feed URL in PowerPress

Thank you!

There is another Blubrry support rep helping you via direct e-mail, so I will be closing this thread to further responses to keep the conversation from becoming fractured.
