Powerpress player not appearing correctly
« on: November 07, 2015, 12:26:55 am »
After the latest update for the Wordpress plug-in I have been having issues with the powerpress player embedded in a post appearing correctly. Have been using it for years and now it shows a broken box along with a link that just links back to the same page.

As an example: http://thebatmanuniverse.net/episode-29-8/ This is one of the latest episodes we have posted.

We have not updated our theme since the latest Powerpress update nor has anything else updated that affects the podcast post pages. We have not djusted anything except updated to the latest update for the plugin.

You can try the troubleshooting tips listed her to verify whether or not PowerPress is causing the issue:
http://create.blubrry.com/resources/powerpress/using-powerpress/diagnosing-feed-andor-player-issues-with-powerpress/

If it turns out that PowerPress is the source of the problem, please report back and let us know.

I went through the troubleshooting and tried disabling my plugins to no avail. I also went into the settings for the powerpress media player in the plugin settings and tried the fix option there and nothing happened either. I'm not sure what else to try. Is there a way to revert back to the older version that worked without issues?

Can you copy and paste the Media URL you used? What I see currently is a link to a webpage. The file needs to have an appropriate file extension (.e.g. .mp3) to know to display the player.

Odd question since if the feed was checked it would show the correct file type.

http://thebatmanuniverse.net/video/Podcast/12-The%20Gotham%20Chronicle/Season%2002/Episode%2007/TGC%20E7.mp3

This is what is linked to the podcast episode. We have over 10 feeds with well over 900 episodes so we know that the type of file needs to be .mp3. The issue never existed prior to the latest update to the Powerpress plugin.

The media file is "http://thebatmanuniverse.net/episode-29-8/" linked to the download link on that page.

It should be that mp3 link you posted.

Is that mp3 file path in your podcast episode box?

Also, looking at that link, there are a lot of spaces in the file name.

Please edit the post http://thebatmanuniverse.net/episode-29-8/, take a screen shot of the podcast episode box. I suspect it is missing part of the media URL which is the problem.

Again, if you looked at the RSS Feed it shows the correct file attached. This is not a single post issue as this is the case for every post we currently have that has a podcast episode on it. The only issue is the player not appearing correctly and the links below. We currently have 917 episode son our site that all have the same issue with the player, including ones that had the player showing up correctly prior to the update.

As for taking a screenshot and sending, it I do not have the ability to attach a file within my post, so that does not work. I implore you to check out any of the 917 episodes we currently have listed and see that the same thing is happening site wide and not contained to the one example post I gave.

I'm trying to help you. Screen shout would confirm the media URL is set correctly. It should also have a warning about the spaces in the URL when you click verify, but that is for your benefit.

If you load the page, right click on the "download" link and select "copy link location". Then paste it into a text editor or something. I am not getting the media URL, instead I am getting a URL to the actual page itself.

The other anomaly, if you view the page's source, you can find the HTML5 audio shortcode in the page:

<audio class="wp-audio-shortcode" id="audio-32357-1" preload="none" style="width: 100%; visibility: hidden;" controls="controls"><source type="audio/mpeg" src="http://thebatmanuniverse.net/video/Podcast/12-The%20Gotham%20Chronicle/Season%2002/Episode%2002/TGC%20E2.mp3?_=1" />

But once the page loads and you use the browser's inspector, the audio take is gone, but in its place is an empty video tag. It is as if some javascript is running in your page that is removing the audio tag.

You said you tried disabling plugins? Did you first disable your WP caching plugin first? You may have disabled plugins and not actually changed anything if you left the caching plugin on the whole time.

We are aware the the links for the Download also appear incorrectly. Here is a link to the screenshot.

We tried disabling the WP Cache plugin and nothing changed.

For whatever it is worth, we are experiencing exactly the same problem. We have had no issue with any audio file for years. Suddenly, the player is missing from every post, replaced by the same thing that the OP has found. Even the links to "play in new window" do not work. They simply bring you back to the post page.

Changing the player to the HTML 5 option works, but that option does not allow the listener to pause, change volume, etc. Once the file starts the only way to stop it is to close the page. So, that is not a valid option.  (Opening in a new window works, but most site visitors aren't going to do that. They are simply going to press the "play" arrow.

I do not believe that this is a theme issue, since our theme has not been updated recently.

Thanks for your help.

Robert, please reply with a link so we can see.

Dustin, can you try the WordPress audio shortcode?

e.g. [audio url="http://example.com/path/to/media.mp3"]

Please replace http://example.com/path/to/media.mp3 with your actual media URL.

Robert, I've confirmed you have the same problem.

Can you also try the audio shortcode and see if the player appears?
