301 iTunes redirect seems to only be partially successful
« on: September 10, 2015, 01:45:50 pm »
Hi All,

So I have finally liberated my RSS feed from the clutches of BlogTalkRadio. I can see that iTunes is currently pointing here:

http://therebelbroker.com/category/real-estate-realities-podcast-news/feed

I understand that this 301 process can take some time, but what is odd is that clearly some of the feed has been checked by iTunes. The description, website link, etc. all came from the new feed pasted above. However, it is not showing any of the existing shows - it actually shows no shows at all. It also has not updated the show art.

Is this normal? The 301 redirect was supposedly set up by BTR on Wed night. Just wanted to see if there was any troubleshooting from my end that I could do.

Also, after taking another look at my powerpress plugin settings, I find that the url they suggest I use with iTunes is:

http://therebelbroker.com/feed/podcast

Should I use the redirect feature of powerpress to now change what iTunes is looking at to this url instead?

I am seeing subtle differences between the two feeds.

Cheers,
R

This feed: http://therebelbroker.com/category/real-estate-realities-podcast-news/feed
is a category feed. If this is the feed you'd like to use going forward, then you need to make sure category podcasting is enabled and that you've properly filled out of the settings for the category feed. You can learn more about category podcasting here:

Hi Shawn,

Thanks for clearing that up. I suppose down the road I may want to make use of the category feature - maybe have other folks doing their own shows via my site for instance.

Either way, it sounds like the feed as it currently exists should be allowing iTunes to display the existing episodes.

Thanks,
Robert

The reason iTunes isn't showing any episodes is because this feed:
http://therebelbroker.com/category/real-estate-realities-podcast-news/feed
doesn't contain any media enclosures (podcast episodes). This is a WordPress category feed being created with any of your posts that you choose to add to the Real Estate Realities Podcast News category in your WordPress blog. The reason that this feed contains no episodes is possibly due to:
1.) You haven't properly enabled and configured category podcasting in the PowerPress settings.
2.) You haven't added your podcast episode posts to the Real Estate Realities Podcast News category.

Your default PowerPress feed, however, does contain your podcast episodes:
http://therebelbroker.com/feed/podcast
So you've got a couple options. You can do as I've advised above to make the Real Estate Realities Podcast News category feed into a viable podcasting feed or you can set up a 301 redirect on your WordPress site that forwards the category feed to the default PowerPress feed.

Hi Shawn,

Thanks! I think I see what I have done now. I noted that when I went back to shows and manually added the URL for the show media file in the powerpress field for that post, it showed up.

I think I am just going to point it back at the main podcast feed instead of the category. Just cleaner.

Thanks so much for the help!
