Adding <itunes:new-feed-url> to feed
« on: July 20, 2015, 10:41:43 pm »
I've done the 301 redirect to change my old feed to the new address after creating a custom post type for my show.  This new custom post type created a new feed that PowerPress is asking me to use.  2 questions:

1.  Can I still use the old feed address even though I have a new custom post type enabled?  Right now only the "older" episodes are showing up in iTunes, which were posted before my custom post type was created.

2.  If I have to redirect and "update" my feed in iTunes how and where do I add the tag that Apple recommends (<itunes:new-feed-url>) in wordpress?

Any other help would be appreciated.  I have episodes that are going out and they're not showing up in iTunes.

Thanks.

Craig

Take a look at this article on post-type podcasting, just to make sure you've got everything set up correctly:
http://create.blubrry.com/resources/powerpress/advanced-tools-and-options/post-type-podcasting/

If you've got the 301 redirect working properly, there's really no need to go back and add the iTunes New URL tag but if you're concerned about it, you can find the option by going to PowerPress >> Settings (Advanced Mode) >> iTunes >> iTunes New Feed URL.

Also, can you post links to your old PowerPress feed, your new PowerPress feed and your iTunes Store listing? We can take a look at them and see how they're working.

Can you look at my feed and see what's going on? I've put the new feed URL into the app but the old episodes are still showing in iTunes and the old feed is still being broadcast on iTunes. I'm not sure what settings need to be changed in either PowerPress or iTunes.

iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/the-wonderful-experiment/id1015564801?mt=2
old feed: http://thewonderfulexperiment.podbean.com/feed/
new feed: http://kc.truenorthoutdoor.com/feed/podcast

Your iTunes Store listing is currently using the Podbean feed. You'll need to add the redirect information to the new feed into the Podbean feed. If your Podbean account is still active, you can check with their support to see if they'll allow you to do that. If you no longer have access to the Podbean account, you can file a ticket with iTunes Podcast support here:
https://itunespodcasts.zendesk.com/hc/en-us
Click the "Submit a request" link and the first item on the dropdown menu that comes up is "Change feed URL." Follow the instructions from there.

But if you can, get the Podbean feed to redirect to the PowerPress feed. That'll ensure you retain all of your subscribers, not just those who use iTunes.

Thanks for responding @Shawn. I have put the new feed in the "Link URL in RSS2" in podbean - is this all I need to do to update the feed address in podbean? Hoping this works - I'm not sure how long it should take before I check back and should expect to see the updated feed in iTunes.

I'm unfamiliar with how Podbean's interface works but I was able to find this thru a Google search:
http://support.podbean.com/customer/portal/articles/1350413-podbean-%7C-how-to-set-a-new-feed-url
If this is what you've done, I believe you'll be fine. If you run into any problems, I'd recommend contacting Podbean support.
