Error with Media URL after updating to WP 4.0
« on: September 11, 2014, 05:46:35 pm »
I have been getting the following error when I validate the file

"Media URL reporting incorrect content type: text/html"

I'm thinking it flows downhill because the RSS widgets that I have on my site have started reporting this error

"RSS Error: A feed could not be found at http://www.saintmarkslutheran.org/category/sermons/feed/. A feed with an invalid mime type may fall victim to this error, or SimplePie was unable to auto-discover it.. Use force_feed() if you are certain this URL is a real feed."

iTunes still get the feed.  The file still plays from the website.  The feed validates.  I had no problems until I upgraded WordPress to 4.0.  Any idea what might be causing the error?

I've seen this before but what solved it that time was simply spelling out precisely the URL of the podcast.  I had been just typing in website.com/podcast.  Changing to http://www.website.com/podcast fixed that problem.  But now it is back even when I spell it all out.  The only change is update to WP4.0.

Could that have changed a wrapper encoding or an order?  I'm at a loss, because itunes still works and the feed validates and the player plays, but it won't validate in in posting.  And it causes RSS-widget problems downstream.

I use audacity to record and encode the podcast itself.

If it's working other than the "verify" button, it could be a web hosting issue.  Has your web hosting company updated something lately?

Also, it's not really a good idea to host your media on the same server with your website.   See: http://create.blubrry.com/manual/internet-media-hosting/
