AAC duration be determined
« on: July 29, 2013, 01:24:35 am »
I understand that AAC duration cannot be determined currently, but I haven't found any details as to 'why' and if there is the possibility it could be autodetected in the future?

It should be able to detect AAC, we detect AAC in mp4/m4v video. I'll look into it, may just be a logic bug.

I tested some m4a files and I'm able to detect the duration. Can you reply with the URL to the media file you're having problems with so I can test with that?

I am unable to replicate the issue. What I may have done is at first pasted in the wrong URL and clicked verify. Then I pasted in the correct URL and clicked verify again. Doing this, the autodetect doesn't happen because after the first URL verify, the values are entered and the radio buttons are changed from auto detect to the auto-detected values. No problems here.

It looks like WP v3.6 has embedded tag reading new functions like wp_read_audio_metadata().

Their function wp_read_audio_metadata uses the same getid3 library we use in PowerPress, except it only works with files that are saved locally. We've modified the version of Getid3 in PowePress so it will detect the media information for files regardless of where the file is hosted.

Angelo,

I have found a few files which are not having their length determined by PowerPress. I'll add a few links here as I find them:

http://newbergfriends.org/nfcmedia/2012/NFC_December_30_2012e.m4a
http://newbergfriends.org/nfcmedia/2013/NFC_January_6_2013e.m4a
http://newbergfriends.org/nfcmedia/2013/NFC_January_27_2013e.m4a
http://newbergfriends.org/nfcmedia/2013/NFC_February_10_2013e.m4a

The size is determined just fine, but the duration stays a 0:00:00.

There's something with the files, but I don't know what it is yet. I will do some more tests in the morning.

Not yet, I haven't had time. You'e going to have to be patient, free support comes when we have time, and unfortunately I'm swamped at the moment.

In the mean time you can manually enter your durations.
