MRSS
« on: February 23, 2013, 07:13:01 pm »
It would be incredibly handy to have MRSS support added as this information can be used to great effect with streaming media playback devices including Roku boxes etc so thumbnails and additional media information is included along with the audio/video information.

Love the plugin and this would be the icing on the cake if you could make it possible :)

All the best

MRSS was Yahoo's attempt in 2004 at making a podcasting specification, but it never got traction. Apple made their own iTunes name space in 2005, and that has become the standard as far as podcasting. There are conflicts if you combine MRSS and iTunes specs in an RSS feed.

As far as having similar functionality, the RawVoice RSS will do what MRSS could do and more, check it out here: http://www.rawvoice.com/services/tools-and-resources/rawvoice-rss-2-0-module-xmlns-namespace-rss2/ The RawVoice RSS spec is fully supported in PowerPress and complements (works along side) the iTunes RSS specs.

OK fair enough, however the thumbnail (<media:thumbnail) is created from the standard podcast image - is there a way to change this to WordPress feature image?

Ahh apologies that was added by Feedburner.

Just trying to give each podcast a unique image taken from the 'Featured Image' feature of WordPress so on devices that support it - a more descriptive picture is shown rather than just an image of the general podcasting logo.

Okay, well what devices are you worried about?

You are aware the Roku doesn't directly use MRSS or feeds in general, you need an application for the Roku to get your podcast on the there. Easiest way is to join Blubrry and get featured, we already have a Roku app.

Already working on a Roku app, which is nearly completed except for audio support - hence why I could have done with each podcast having its own unique to populate the app :)

I will also look into your offering as well.
