Image not showing up in iTunes
« on: August 23, 2012, 07:17:39 am »
I don't know why, but suddently our podcast image stopped showing up in iTunes.

I must admit that I find the setup of the Blubrry plugin very confusing  :-[

This is the original feed: http://www.antphilosophy.com/category/podcasts/feed

This is the Feedburner feed (which is also what has been submitted to iTunes): http://feeds.feedburner.com/theindustriousgeeks

Please please, can somebody help me?

Thank you so much!!

Your artwork shows up in the feed from powerpress so your issue is with Feedburner or iTunes.

Please contact them for support.

One thing with Feedburner, turn off the "smartcast" feature... And see if it shows up.

Thank you Mike.

I've turned off the SmartCast and used the Feedburner "Nuke" option.

Any idea how fast I can expect iTunes to repond (see the image show up)?

If they are pulling your feed at a normal rate, it will be 24-72 hours.  If it's somehow stuck (it happens sometimes) it will be more like 2-3 weeks.

One more thing... Are you putting your artwork in the ID3 tags of your media file?  This will make it show up right away on an iPad or iPod touch (iphone too) when that file is played.   See http://www.podcastfaq.com/creating-podcast/audio/id3-tags/ for info about id3 tags.

Thanks again Mike.

Yes the file is formatted with image and all. It is only iTunes that is giving me a headache.

It is still not showing up.

I am willing to pay someone to solve this problem for me? Anyone willing to do so?

Feel free to send me a PM.

Thanks

It IS showing up in your feed.  the very feed that itunes pulls.   IT WILL show up... You have to wait until itunes pulls your feed again.  This can take as little as 72 hours or as much as 3 weeks (the last time I had the same issue)

Three weeks is a long time to be patient :)

I'll wait for 3 weeks and see what happens. Thanks again Mike.

16 days and still nothing...

Can it really be right that it can take 3 weeks? Is there nobody at Apple to contact about such a thing?

Yes, it sucks, but yes, it can take 3 weeks.

You can try the itunes support forums and if you do find a way to contact apple, please share it here!

Double check that your image is showing up in your iTunes listing searching www.apple.com. It may have updated there, just not in your copy of the desktop app.

I looked up that iTunes listing ID, and iTunes is pulling this URL: http://feeds.feedburner.com/theindustriousgeeks The image it's linking to (http://www.antphilosophy.com/wp-content/plugins/podpress/images/logo.jpg) is 650x650. iTunes wants images now to be 1400x1400. Furthermore, if all you did was upload and overwrite your previous image, then it could take over a month for the image to update.

If you're using PowerPress, go to the PowerPress Settings > iTunes tab, and upload the new iTunes image with the correct size there. PowerPress will save the file in a special way to force iTunes to update within 3 days.

As far as FeedBurner is concerned, make sure FeedBurner is updated after you make the change to your blog. We don't provide support for FeedBurner, so you'll need to work out the details with syncing your PowerPress feed with your Feedburner feed on your own.

Hi Angelo. First of all thanks.

I completely understand that you don't support Feedburner. If I had known how much trouble it would be I wouldn't have used in in the first place.

As for the PowerPress iTunes settings, I believe that I have used a picture that is a sufficient size?

http://awesomescreenshot.com/0e3fpne53

Could it be that it simply doesn't force the image like you said?

Lets back track. What feed does FeedBurner pull? you referenced http://www.antphilosophy.com/category/podcasts/feed/, which I see is a category feed. If you can confirm that FeedBurner is burning this feed URL, then...

You need to go to PowerPress > Category Podcasting, then edit the category "podcasts", then upload your iTunes image there. Then you need to refresh FeedBurner.

If feedburner is pulling feed (http://www.antphilosophy.com/feed/podcast/), you have the right sized image in there and for some reason FeedBurner is not up to date.

As far as your last question, 2000x2000 jpg is sufficient.
