I have an URL trouble
« on: July 14, 2012, 06:27:24 am »
When I go on my wordpress blog and I try to click on the download podcast (it's a video), I have a bad url.

THis is my podcast post with the media :

http://photoserge.com/category/podcast/

When I click on download it bring me to :

http://photoserge.com/podcast/Podcast01.mp4www.photoserge.com/wp-content/uploads/Podcast01.mp4

You see both of the url are correct, but combine they are not !

Also I have a 404 error when I try to download my video from itunes, I guess it's related. I must be wrong a setting somewhere !

Tks for the help !

Serge

The file "Podcast01.mp4" can only be in the URL once.  You have it in there twice.

It is either here:  http://www.photoserge.com/podcast/Podcast01.mp4
or it is here: http://www.photoserge.com/wp-content/uploads/Podcast01.mp4

You only need to put whichever place is correct for the file in the Episode Box.

This might help:

Go to your powerpress settings > basic tab.. Look for "default media url" and make sure it is blank.   Click save at the bottom of the page.

This Should NOT be a problem normally, but there might be something else going on.

If this doesn't fix it, start turning off other plugins one by one and see if any of them are messing with your media URL's ... Look for any plugin that has to do with media.

What do you have as your stats redirect URL?

Is that blank?

Ok.. that's the problem.

Leave the http://media.blubrry.com/photoserge/ part but take out the rest of that URL.  Just have "http://media.blubrry.com/photoserge/" in that box

Then just put the URL to the media in the podcast episode box on your post.

Yes, Your stats will work.

And when you post the next podcast episode, you just need to put the media URL in the podcast episode box.  the redirect will automatically be added for stats.

happy podcasting!

Hello Mike,

I hope you will get this mail. In fact I realised that I did not follow exactly your instructions as I took everything out that box, instead of just leaving http://media.blubrry.com/photoserge/ as you said. I went too fast. Since my podcast is working well on Itunes, but I dont get the stats, or at least only on episode one.

So I have reput as you instructed http://media.blubrry.com/photoserge/ in that field. My questions is when I put my next podcast up in the post settings do I put the whole file adress or just the file :

http://photoserge.com/wp-content/uploads/Episode5.mp4 or

just  : Episode5.mp4

i wanted to be sure.

tks for all your help !

Mike is out on vacation.

You need to put your URL to the media file in PowerPress's "Media URL" setting. The Media redirect URL goes in the PowerPress Settings > "Services and Stats" tab, media URL redirect field. The reason they are separate is in the event you want to stop using the redirect, your "Media URL" is still correct. When the Statistics redirect is implemented in PowerPress Settings, PowerPress applies it to all your media URLs. It's basically just good practice.

All right just to be sure I got that right. I did two screen shots of what I did.

First in my post, I put in the media url :

http://cl.ly/image/0O2L0b3m0m0p

And in the stats setting I put in the media redirect url :

http://cl.ly/image/1n0t13353101

Is that correct for you ?

Tks for the help !
