Statistics Filtering (esp. Excluding Self-Visits)
« on: May 20, 2012, 05:20:00 pm »
Blubrry,

Is there a way to filter out "self-visits" (i.e. internal traffic) as is possible with Google Analytics? Excluding IP addresses? Setting browser cookies? Sometimes there's the need to play/download files myself....

Thanks!

Mike

I don't believe there is a way to block those types of plays.

If you are concerned about it, just remember how many times you hit the file and subtract it from the totals.

If your user agent includes "bot" in the name, it will not be counted. You could use a plugin like for Firefox called User Agent Switcher to achieve this. The word bot needs to be clear in the user agent, just doing something like "Firefoxbot/12.0 ..." will not work, but if you do "Firefox/12.0 mycustom/bot ..." we'll pick it up as a a bot and not count it. Using the Verify feature of PowerPRess is also not counted in our system.

There's no way to block IPs at the show level at this time. IP blocking is currently only used to block addresses system wide and is managed by administrators only.

Thanks for the replies!

I will give the bot-switching plugin a try and see what happens (and keep an Evernote log of my visits, as well!).
