Using correct categories
« on: January 16, 2012, 10:13:40 am »
I want to make sure I'm posting my podcast in the accurate category. I have the blubrry plugin installed and have posted podcasts with the media url under Podcast>AudioTim If you search for my podcasts under category, they are in both the parent "Podcast" and "AudioTim". The PowerPress Category Podcasting is enabled. Right now AudioTim is the only podcast I have, but I'm wondering if I add another in the future if I should keep this subcategory.

As I upload my feed into iTunes, my blubrry page says my podcast feed is http://timothycward.com/feed/podcast/ However, shouldn't that be something more specific to AudioTim? This seems to be my main podcast feed, but what if I just wanted AudioTim stuff? Would I submit a different feed?

A little more digging and I found that this is the feed http://timothycward.com/category/podcast/audiotim/feed/ and the one above would be if I wanted a "superfeed" for all my podcasts to go into. I guess it is just up to me now whether I want to submit the superfeed or the audiotim specific feed when submitting to itunes.

What ever you do, when you decide on a "podcast" feed, make sure you only ever include podcast blog posts. Most all podcast directories including iTunes do not display blog posts only. Crossing regular blog posts with podcast posts will limit the number of episodes that appear in the feed, essentially limiting episodes displayed on iTunes.
