Help me with my RSS feed
« on: January 07, 2012, 09:40:52 am »
So I have set up a free wordpress blog specifically for providing an RSS feed for my podcasts. I then give that feed to feedburner which is then feed into podtrac.  I then give the podtrac-enhanced RSS feed(http://feeds.podtrac.com/Z52Gqj9h7To$) to the many podcatchers where I have my podcast episodes listed. I put this feed into feedvalidator.org and it told me that each episode in my RSS feed had three enclosures in it. How can get that down to just one enclosure without spending more money?

I have a website(a self-hosted wordpress site) over at adistechsite.co.uk.  If it comes down to it, I can set up the Powerpress plugin and put the podcasts there.

PowerPress provides all the features necessary to add podcasting to your WordPress feeds, there's no need to use FeedBurner.

PowerPress has fields for media redirect URLS that will work with PodTrac's media redirects. You set this setting once, and then you forget about it, PowerPress will handle it for you. You can use both PodTrac and Blubrry's Statistics systems at the same time by the way. PowerPress supports up to 3 statistics redirect services, though at the moment Blubrry and PodTrac are the only ones on the market.

We do not provide support for FeedBurner or PodTrac. You will have to ask for support for those services from them. We do support Blubrry PowerPress, and Blubrry Statistics, so if you use our stats we can help you if you have any problems.

Here is my advice. I understand you may not have a budget, but you can get a self hosted Wordpress sintall for about $7-$9 a month. If you want to go free, you still pay. How? With your TIME. If you have more time than money then by all means, enjoy the frustration. I've moved many people from Wordpress.com because its slow, and people get tired of hearing all the cool things other people are doing, but they can't. You can get media hosting for$12. What gets me is people won't put out $20 a month for a podcasting hobby, but they'll blow $50 to see one movie, or $39 for a video game, or $20 for 4 cups of Starbucks in a month.

Make sure you are linking to only one item. Feedburner (if you have it set to do this) will make enclosures for all media.
