Add second channel to Itunes
« on: December 20, 2010, 09:30:51 am »
I had been making completely new wordpress and powerpress sites for each new podcast. worked well, but then had several sites to manage. so recently I decided to start a new podcast with a similar theme to another I already had, so decided to try the new channel feature in powerpress. So I modified the one i already had and started setting up a new channel with it. Everything is working fine through Zune and Feedburner and anything else i have tried. Validation of all the url's I have are all correct. However, when I go to add the feed to Itunes, it pulls up all the details of the 1st(and default) channel that was in this powerpress 1st. Even tried using the direct powerpress feed(rather then the feedburner redirect) and still does the same thing. how can i get Itunes to read the new channel? did i miss a setting some where? I've searched around the forums and it seems all other issues with channels and Itunes are past the point adding the feed. Let me know, thanks!

My first speculation is that all your feeds are using the same title. iTunes is picky and does not allow multiple listings for podcasts with the same title in the iTunes directory. You have to change them slightly, like "My Blog Video" and "My Blog Audio" if you wanted to submit two feeds to iTunes with the same title.

Can you provide some links so we can investigate? We can speculate about 100 different scenarios that could explain the problem, but if you provide links to the feeds your trying to submit to iTunes, we can look at them and give you a better answer rather then speculate.

Thanks for the quick reply. No the titles are very different. Here's the page I sent up for the 1st podcast....
http://dementiaradio.org/podcast/?page_id=208

and here's the direct feed link....
http://dementiaradio.org/podcast/?feed=podcast

Here's the page i set up for the second....
http://dementiaradio.org/podcast/?page_id=229

and here's the direct feed link....
http://dementiaradio.org/podcast/?feed=tem

Thanks for any help.

You will be one of the last folks we help using FeedBurner. We've been providing support since the beginning for FeedBurner, but starting in 2011, we will no longer provide support for a service that we cannot control.

I just added both of these feeds (http://feeds.dementiaradio.org/DemRadPodcast?format=xml) and (http://feeds.dementiaradio.org/ToadEM?format=xml) to iTunes, and I see separate subscriptions listed fine.

There are two meanings to saying "adding a podcast to iTunes". Do you want to add the podcast to your copy of the iTunes application (like I did)? Or do you want to add your podcast to the iTunes podcast directory? If you want to add another podcast to the iTunes podcast directory, you need to submit your 2nd feed to iTunes. When you submit the feed, iTunes will send you an email saying something to the effect that in the coming weeks they will approve your listing. Then in 1-4 weeks, iTunes will email you again letting you know if you're listing was approved or not.

in PowerPress, there is a link in the iTunes settings tab that automatically loads iTunes to the add podcast feed page. If you're having problems finding where to add your podcast to the iTunes podcast directory, just click that link.

Ok, so today for no good reason it is indeed working correctly. Perhaps something had to just update before Itunes liked it. It's still showing the 1st show's description, but i think that was a mistake I made in setup. As I said in my 1st post, was nothing to do with feedburner. even completely bypassing it and using the direct power press rss it was still messing up. Thanks for the help though!
