I can't get my mp4 feed to iTunes
« on: December 01, 2010, 06:17:16 pm »
First of all I would like to clarify that I'm really desperate and disappointed.

I'm using Blubrry since yesterday and I couldn't get it to work.

my posts are all set up ok also I used the podcast episode box underneath the post to include my video files with the post.

my blog is in Arabic language, but I guess it is not the issue?

I tried everything to make my category feed (http://www.trables.com/category/trabelsicast/feed/) to appear in iTunes but I couldn't. all I get when I tested it in iTunes by subscribing to it is:

There was a problem downloading
"http://www.trables.com/category/trabelsicast/feed/".

Authorization is needed to access
"http://www.trables.com/category/trabelsicast/feed/".

When I validate my feed (http://www.feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.trables.com%2Fcategory%2Ftrabelsicast%2Ffeed%2F) I got this:
"Server returned HTTP Error 403: Forbidden"

the funny thing which drives me insane that the feed works on any browser and even in any feed reader I use, along with that the videos files located in a 755 chmod folder (http://www.trables.com/videocast/)

All what I need is to publish any future posts I do in my wordpress blog into iTunes. specifically this category (http://www.trables.com/category/trabelsicast/)

I'm ok to give you any snapshots you need, and I'm ready for anything if it could lead to fix this thing for me.

I'm really desperate and my mind is exhausted, I'm thinking of committing suicide  :-X

I even tested your regular feed added by WordPress (http://www.trables.com/feed/) with feedvalidator.org and it also reports 403. From my computer, I get a 200 response, so something is happening on your web hosting. I would contact them about the problem. An error like this that reports 200 from one computer, but 403 from another is definitely out of our control.

You may also want to get your blog to as pure of a state as possible by disabling all the plugins, it may be that one of your other plugins is causing the problem.

thanks for your reply, I was thinking the same thing this morning, and now how could I explain this to my hosting service support! I don't think it is a usual issue and easy to explain!

I will ask them to check this topic in the support-ticket!

I will let you know what happen so we can use any solution I got for others might have the same.

Best Regards,
Ali.

the issue was definitely from my hosting company as they told me the following:

Quote
We do placed a custom rules on our server for security reason to prevent auto bot hacking attempt using apache module " Mod Security ", I did made exception to allow external link from feedvalidator, please check now everything should working just fine,

I've tested the category feed with feedvalidator.org and I succeed! now we will try to optimize this thing and let you know.

The life has colors again :D

it worked like a charm!

thanks angelo for your help, and thanks to my support admin for his quick fix :D

so if you guys had the same strange problem, ask your hosting admin if they use (apache module "Mod Security"), that should fix it.

I submitted the feed in iTunes and it's under review.  ;D
