Issues with media URLs after importing Podpress
« on: July 20, 2010, 11:38:49 am »
Has anyone noticed that upon importing Podpress episodes to Powepress that all the media URLs are now preceded by a/
even though the Default Media URL is set to http://mydomain.com/dir/ ?

Mine are now ALL like that. Any fix? I have hundreds of archived shows.

Now also noticing that Default Media URL is not working even after I remove the a/

Can you reply with the URL to your blog so we can take a look?

Importing is straight forward, it takes the URLs from PodPress and imports them. There are only two cases where you can run into problems:

  • Switching from a very old version of PodPress (older than version 7.x). The data is not stored correctly and those versions of PodPress were very buggy.
  • If you did not have a valid URL entered into your PodPress Settings > Media URL field. PowerPress takes that value and adds the media URLs when performing the import.

Last, PowerPress has an option when doing the import to "Verify" the URL is valid before importing. If those URLs that have the invalid characters are invalid, PowerPress with the Verify option turned on shouldn't import them.

It was the newest Podpress and WP 3.0.

I used the Media URL tool to remove all the a/ in front of the filenames.

They still didn't play. Oddly if I go in and verify the media file and save the post it starts working. No changes, just verify and save.

I did it on this one: http://www.alterati.com/blog/2010/07/the-gspot-crowdsourcing/ which now plays.

I didn't do it on this one (and most of my other posts older than a month) and it doesn't work: http://www.alterati.com/blog/2010/03/the-gspot-steve-peters/

The URLs do not have the http://www.alterati.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/ in front of them. It is almost as if the Media URL setting in PodPress was deleted before the PowerPress import was performed.

Going into edit the post then clicking 'Verify' will fix the problem, as PowerPress will take the PowerPress "Media URL" setting and prefix the file name for you. You just have to click 'Save' for the post for each verified URL.

Sorry I'm not aware of an easier way to fix this without you sending me an export of your database.
