Podcast Channel Feeds in the Blubrry PowerPress Settings
« on: February 09, 2010, 08:10:13 pm »
I apologize if this question has already been answered.

I am changing the Podcast Channel Feeds in the Blubrry PowerPress Settings. It defaults to my blog's RSS feed only. There are no other options to choose from. Is Podcast Channel Feeds a separate plugin? I'm using Wordpress 2.8.6 because my hosting service is not updating via Fantastico yet. If the answer is simple then may I be shamed. Any help would be appreciated as I dig deeper into the ever growing list of options provided by this wonderful plug-in.

Before I can better answer this question, what are you trying to accomplish?

Podcast Channel feed option at the bottom enables a subset of options already built into PowerPress. It is disabled by default since most users do not need the feature.

No shame for you, PowerPress works with WordPress 2.6 and newer.

Explanation of feeds in PowerPress
PowerPress adds feeds to your WordPress blog and they are referred to as Podcast Channels. By default PowerPress comes with 1 'podcast' only Channel that will use example.com/feed/podcast/ as its feed.  Anything added to the default Podcast Channel is also available in your main site RSS feed (generated by WordPress). The primary difference between your main RSS feed and the Podcast only feed is what posts they contain. The Podcast only feed will only contain posts that have podcast episodes. A podcast only feed is ideal for distributing to podcasting directories and iTunes because most podcast directories including iTunes will not display posts without media associated with them.

Additional Custom Podcast Channels allow you to associate additional media formats to each blog post. This is useful if you want to distribute both an audio mp3 and video m4v version of your podcast, or an mp3 and an ogg audio version of your podcast, or distribute a short mp3 version and a long mp3  version using the Feed Password protection option in PowerPress to distribute premium content. Very important to note that additional Custom Podcast Channels will not appear in your main RSS feed. For proper feed validation, only one media file can be associated to a post item, which is why you cannot combine multiple formats into one feed. There is a detailed explanation of this in the FAQ of the plugin's profile page.

Thank you Angelo. The explanation and detail of information was extremely informative and helpful. I do applaud the continual features Power Press provides podcasters. I am looking to add some of the features mentioned  into my show soon.
