Recording Live Complications
« on: January 04, 2010, 09:48:00 pm »
I am planning to slowly move the way I record my episodes to include a live element. (Chat, possible real time calls, etc.) I am very picky about making sure our audio is the best possible as I believe it adds professionalism to your show. However, I am concerned that adding a live chat or other interactive ideas will compromise the audio quality. Podcasters have been suggesting services such as Blog Talk, and uStream. I may be able to deliver the show and have a dedicated recording of the episode running at the same time to edit and polish later. Does anyone have suggestions of how to best set this up while keeping the points of failure to a minimum. Here is my current gear for my co-host and I.

- Both record on separate Shure SM58.
- both XLR outs and run into an M-Audio MobilePre USB - USB Bus-Powered Preamp and Audio Interface.
- USB from the MobilePre runs out to my Macbook Pro recording in Audacity.
- I have a dedicated digital recorder but it only records in wma. ( :P)
- I have a standard Tapco 100 mixer.

My Macbook Pro is about to turn 3 years old but still is in amazing shape. Also, I edit the final mix in Adobe Audition 3 and Sound Forge Pro.  I would appreciate any suggestions and ideas!
